On August 6, 2025, the Midlothian Mirror published an article about the Desert Willow battery energy storage system facility’s ribbon cutting held in Venus, Texas on July 30. In addition to participating in a site tour, the Midlothian Mirror interviewed several esVolta leaders to capture the full scope of the facility’s benefits to the local community, its technology, safety best practices, and more.
“This is a standalone energy storage project,” said esVolta founder and CEO Randolph Mann. “It has the capability to charge and discharge batteries directly connected to the power grid. And the reason for doing that is really to provide clean and reliable energy as needed onto the power grid.”
“Most of the technology is going to be in the batteries themselves, which are lithium-ion based from Sungrow,” said esVolta Vice President of Projects Joseph Williamson. “They’re liquid cooled HVAC with industry leading safety features as well.”
“When we talk about jobs, there was elevation of the site. There was the actual construction of the facility to level it, to bring in the batteries, and then to assemble the batteries on the site,” said esVolta Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs Tonja Wicks. “All of those pieces, there were jobs that were created behind the scenes to make this entire facility a reality.”
“We’re making sure that you’ve got the power that you need, when you need it,” said Mann. “And so when you’re on one of those scorching hot days in Dallas and you flip on your air conditioner, everybody else is flipping on the air conditioner at the same time. And we’re here to help.”
